QPI of Malaria-Infected Mosquitoes

label-free visualization of Plasmodium parasites in Anopheles midguts

Quantitative phase imaging (QPI) provides label-free morphometric contrast for transparent biological specimens. Applied to Anopheles mosquito midguts, this project visualizes and stages Plasmodium parasites without chemical staining — enabling high-throughput screening of infection status.

Contributions

  1. Optimized QPI acquisition protocol for fixed and live mosquito midgut preparations.
  2. Developed segmentation pipeline for parasite detection and morphometric analysis.
  3. Benchmarked against conventional Giemsa staining across infection stages.
